#8 Vocal Fundamental For The Serious Singer

When I was Vocal Coach for The American Idol Experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios I would see teenaged girls with vocal damage.  I am not a doctor! But hoarseness, the loss of pitch (specifically the inability sing certain notes in the middle of her range), and the inability to raise the volume of speaking voice are all unmistakable signs of vocal damage.  At times is seemed epidemic.  I began asking these singers about their favorite singer and guess who it was…Adele. These girls were clearly imitating Adele’s sound.  Adele suffered from vocal damage.  The sexy, smoky vocal production was due to impediments that led to vocal surgery during the height of her career.  Attempting to reproduce the sound of vocal damage will produce damage in health vocal folds over time. Learn more in this quick video.
