#9 Sneaky Bias In Grading Performance
In the movie Finding Nemo, Marlin and his wife Coral suffered devasting blows to their family. Coral and all but one incubating egg were consumed by a barracuda leaving Marlin and the soon-to-be Nemo to live out their lives together and alone. Marlin limited Nemo’s activities as a young, curious guppy in an effort to keep him safe from harm. Nemo was born with a defective fin which further escalated Marlin’s pity for Nemo. Marlin’s pity kept Nemo from exploring his “big blue world” and caused Marlin to loose Nemo despite his best efforts. Nemo didn’t feel the need for pity and protection and ran away, straight into danger. Learn, like Marlin, how pity negatively effects growth.
